The Hidden Costs of Financial Abuse and Fraud in Domestic Violence

February 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EST

Financial fraud impacts millions of people each year, with losses in the billions of dollars. Victims of domestic violence experience unique challenges related to financial abuse and fraud by their intimate partners. These challenges often prevent victims and survivors from safely leaving an abusive relationship.

Understanding the types of financial fraud, such as identity theft, credit card fraud and sextortion that can be used as a form of control or coercion by an intimate partner can help victim service professionals be better equipped to assist survivors. Experts from The National Center for Victims of Crime and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation will highlight the intersections of financial fraud, financial abuse, and intimate partner violence. We will discuss the emotional and financial impact on victims and offer tangible tools and resources to assist survivors.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand the intersections of financial fraud, financial abuse, and intimate partner violence.
Explore the emotional and financial impact fraud has on victims.
Identify tangible steps, tools and resources for victim service professionals when assisting victims.
